Lees verderHELORA has chosen the consortium led by archipelago with VK and Tractebel, to fulfil its ambition to create the first integrated hospital network in Wallonia, Belgium, through the construction of five new hospitals.
Each hospital will be a link in the care network, in synergy with the other sites. The project, totalling nearly 2,150 beds and 220,000 m², will bring the different sites together by promoting complementarities and integrating the particularities of each location.
The project designed by archipelago with its partners VK and Tractebel responds to this challenge by imagining an original hospital typology that has the qualities of an organic, expandable and evolving structure. The design is based on a set of standardised modules that can be assembled according to the context of each site, so that the new hospitals project a brand image that is immediately recognisable and identifiable with the HELORA project.
In addition, to respond to current societal and environmental issues, each of the future hospitals will provide added value to its environment, a form of regeneration of the territory. Several elements will combine to affirm HELORA's strong commitment to sustainable development, such as the "zero emission" objective and the use of wood in the structure.

These different issues represent technical challenges to be met by the VK and Tractebel engineers in charge of structures and MEP. They will combine their creativity and expertise to find the perfect balance between the different materials. The modular design allows for optimised solutions for construction and operation at all five sites.
Beyond the construction phase, the eco-design of this project will have to continue during the operation and maintenance phase. Our design team will support the facility manager in this process. Tractebel will also handle the roads and utilities aspects of the project.
Our approach is based on close collaboration with the various stakeholders of the HELORA teams on site, to design facilities that perfectly meet the specific needs of each community and the health challenges of the 21st century.
The project will result in modern, community-based hospitals on a human scale that are harmoniously integrated into their environment.
In collaboration with: Omgeving, Forum, CoCeptio, Apsis Santé, Antares, Leader Health, AtomBIM, PS2, A-tech and A&G architectes.
