In addition to his current roles as Tractebel’s CEO in France and Global Chief Development & Strategy Officer, Sylvain Gollin has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Energy Assistance (EA), a non-profit supported by the ENGIE Foundation that provides technical expertise to humanitarian projects worldwide.
“I am delighted to announce I have joined the Board of Directors of Energy Assistance, an association that unites volunteers from Tractebel, ENGIE and grid operators to bring electricity to communities all over the world,” says Sylvain Gollin. “Tractebel played a key role in supporting the creation of this association over 20 years ago. We’ve been contributing the skills and expertise of our specialists to humanitarian projects that serve communities in need of electricity ever since. Energy Assistance’s 382 projects to date have provided 4,200 kilowatts of power, benefitting 3.9 million people across the globe.
Caring is a key behavior at Tractebel, and this exciting new mission is the ideal way to demonstrate that. I am grateful for this opportunity and I look forward to driving change through my new role with Energy Assistance. Together we will continue to significantly improve living conditions, making a positive impact on people and the planet.”

Tractebel and EA: a 20+ year partnership
Tractebel’s history with EA dates from the very beginning. The association was founded in 2001, in part by members of Tractebel, including EA’s current General Manager Tony Moens de Hase. Tractebel volunteers have played a key role in numerous EA projects over the years and will continue to offer expertise in electrification in a sustainable way where it will impact the lives of people most.

Of EA’s 382 humanitarian projects to date, recent initiatives include the Panzi Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where EA is implementing a solution to the hospital’s energy shortage, as well as energy production for the hospital’s new operating room. This project is supported by the ENGIE Foundation and realized in close collaboration with Nobel Peace Prize winner Doctor Denis Mukwege.

Electrification of a spirulina farm in Kenya
In early 2022, EA volunteers upgraded the electrification of the dryer and dehumidifier for a spirulina farm in Muhaka, Kenya, where numerous power cuts were hindering drying and production. The nutrient-rich spirulina is distributed free of charge to deficient or malnourished children in nearby clinics and schools.
