The project Construction was finally started, after a period of lockdown due to Coronavirus, at the end of July 2019. A project that contributes to the growth of the Adject regions, both sustainably and socially.
The Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the construction of a 58,905 MW wind farm in Djibouti for the Red Sea Powerwas signed at the end of 2019. The project entails the construction of a wind farm consisting of 17 wind turbine generators supplied by Siemens Gamesa (as EPC contractor) and associated Balance of Plant (BOP) works.
Our energy experts have been involved in this project since the feasibility studies in 2017. In April 2018, Tractebel was appointed Owner’s Engineer for the project in the procurement and design review phase. In June 2020 another important step was realized by Tractebel, which was nominated as Owner Engineer for the Construction Management phase. After almost 3 years of involvement and hard work of the entire project team and a difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tractebel is now mobilized on Site and prepared to support the Client during the construction project .
Tractebel provides a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified experts with international experience to carry out the construction management, technical contract administration services throughout the complete project as well as the commissioning services. In Djibouti , Tractebel is supported by the local company Kayad Consulting Services (SARL) who will assist in reinforcing Tractebel’s site supervisory team with experienced engineers in civil engineering, HSSSE, power generation and transmission and distribution design, as well as further ensure compliance with the local standards and regulations.
The Djibouti wind farm will consider the installation of 17 Siemens Gamesa G132 wind turbine generators with a unitary power of 3.465 MW, resulting in a total capacity of 58.905 MW. The wind farm will be interconnected into the existing EDD transmission network at 230 kV at the point of connection at the facility substation.
"We are proud to be part of the first sustainable energy project in this region. First of all, wind energy contributes in the long term to the maintenance of biodiversity in natural environments. Wind energy produces wind power without degrading air quality, without polluting water or soil. Secondly the client and the Djiboutian administration massively supports the involvement of the Djiboutian population in the implementation of the project. In this way, this project contributes to fighting climate change as well as the societal development of the Adject regions and the country in general” said Patrunoiu Simona, project manager at Tractebel.
