Looking ahead to the future of solar energy

07 May 2019

ENGIE Laborelec, a company of Tractebel, inaugurated an impressive test-bench in Chile to explore solar photovoltaic technologies of the future.

On 21 March, under clear skies and bright sunshine, shiny red ribbons were cut celebrating the official inauguration of ENGIE Laborelec’s experimental outdoor laboratory in the Chilean solar park El Águila, operated by ENGIE Chile.

This impressive test-bench is comprised of 128 state-of-the-art bifacial photovoltaic panels, a new technology for large-scale panels.

"This is a technology that is still not well known, and for that reason, we want to investigate it through international quality measurement equipment that we have installed in the solar laboratory El Águila. This in order to increase energy efficiency and thus contribute to the energy transition that Chile is undergoing," said Antonio Alarcón, General Manager ENGIE Laborelec in Latin America.

This new facility, co-financed by the Chilean governmental organisation Corporación de Fomento de la Producción de Chile (CORFO), was inaugurated by ENGIE Laborelec Managing Director, Michael Marique, and the Chilean Ministerial Regional Secretary of Energy, Cristián Fuentes.
