The Dam Complex of Upper Atbara Project is situated on the Atbara River and the Setit River in the Gedaref Governorate in the east of Sudan. The 13 km long embankments are impounding both rivers and are creating a reservoir with a total storage volume of 3,688 x 106 m³. The powerhouse has fourKaplan turbines, each with a capacity of 80 MW. Outlets are provided to release 100 m³/s for irrigation and 150,000 m³/day to provide drinking water for Gadaref City.
