Our 2024 neutralization plan

At Tractebel, our goal is to reduce our absolute emissions by more than 5% annually. In 2023, we achieved an 11% reduction of our Ways of Working* emissions to our baseline year of 2019. We further reduced our emissions by 18% in 2024 compared to 2023. The compensation of our 2023 emissions is being carried out through our 2024 neutralization plan, while preparations are underway to address the neutralization of our 2024 emissions through the 2025 plan.

*Ways of Working is an internal framework for tracking day-to-day emissions for professional activities of employees, whether on-site, remote, or traveling.

In 2024, we are once again supporting high-impact projects that compensate 14,000 tons of CO2e emissions and also generate co-benefits for biodiversity protection and social development. The projects selected include:

Our sustainability team and Executive Committee selected the following projects:

MySol solar home systems in Sub-Saharan Africa – 4,000 tons of CO₂ eliminated
MySol, an initiative by ENGIE Energy, will distribute battery-charged solar home systems to provide lighting in homes currently using fossil fuel-based lamps, resulting in household energy savings and a reduction of harmful kerosene fumes. Carbon financing will also be used to scale up the project to supply systems to remote areas.

Kasigau Corridor REDD+ project in Kenya - 7,000 tons of CO₂ eliminated

This REDD+ project preserves 200,000 hectares of dryland forest, forming a vital wildlife corridor between Tsavo East and West National Parks. Certified by SD VISta and Gold-rated by the Community and Biodiversity Standard, it supports 13 UN SDGs. Co-benefits include improved healthcare, education, and jobs for 120,000 local people, while protecting key biodiversity including over 11,000 elephants and numerous endangered species.

Afforestation project in Meilhan, France – 3,000 tons of CO₂ eliminated

This 10-hectare project converts agricultural land into forest in the Coteaux de la Garonne region. Certified under the Label Bas-Carbone, it features climate-resilient species and promotes biodiversity conservation. Co-benefits include 23 local jobs in the forest-wood sector, over 2,300 m³ of bio-based materials, and enhanced ecosystem services such as water protection and habitat preservation.

What’s next?

Plans are in full swing for our 2025-2027 initiatives. Going forward, we will continue to reduce our emissions year-over-year as per COP21 recommendations, while neutralizing residual emissions.
