Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba honoured the work of our experts with a certificate of appreciation for the successful construction of the Upper Tamakoshi hydropower project.
On March 19, 2022, Nepal's Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba visited the Dolakha region to inaugurate the new 220 KV Khimti substation. Khimti is an important part of the country’s largest national hydropower project, Upper Tamakoshi. The hydropower plant, with a capacity of 456 MW, went into operation in late 2021. The power generated by the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project (UTKHEP) will be connected to the new substation via a 47-km, 220-KV double-circuit line from Gongar to New Khimti. It is the second largest substation of its kind in Nepal.
The Upper Tamakoshi hydropower plant has been in operation since fall 2021.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank the UTKHEP project participants for their efforts. He presented the certificate of appreciation during a ceremony at the project office site of operator Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited (UTKHPL) in Gonghar. Our branch manager and representative of the Norconsult-Lahmeyer joint venture, Carsten Guntermann, gratefully accepted the award.

Himilayan power plant adds 456 MW of green energy to Nepal's grid
The Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project (UTKHEP) is a milestone in Nepal's energy transition. The power plant is located in a remote region of the upper Himalayas in the catchment area of the Tamakoshi River, about six kilometers from the border with Tibet. Its renewable energy will improve living conditions and promote the country's economic development.
Since 2011, our hydropower experts have been responsible for the execution planning and construction management of the project, in cooperation with our partners. Our experts were involved in both supervision and planning as well as construction contract management. They reviewed the transmission line design and controlled the construction works for all structures.
