Tractebel inaugurates new office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

31 Mar 2021

In the presence of His Excellency the French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Rémi Maréchaux, Tractebel officially opened the doors to its new premises on March 11, 2021. Our entity in Ethiopia deepens our cross-border footprint and allows us to deliver low-carbon solutions by relying on local teams with global expertise.

After 30 years of presence in the country, Tractebel was pleased to celebrate the inauguration of the Addis Ababa office on Thursday, March 11, in the company of the French Ambassador to Ethiopia. The Ethiopian government is committed to a low-carbon energy mix as part of its development plan, a strategy that is fully in line with our purpose of engineering a carbon-neutral future.

Closer to our clients to contribute to local development

Tractebel’s new entity brings us closer to our clients and partners, enabling a better understanding of the national and regional market to guarantee tailored support. For decades, we have been collaborating with local stakeholders to design and implement projects that are driving development in Ethiopia and improvements for its citizens.

Towards a carbon-neutral future in Ethiopia

Tractebel’s day-to-day operations consist of helping clients generate positive impact through their projects, for a sustainable world where people, planet and profit collectively thrive. In recent years, Tractebel has been involved in several notable low-carbon projects to improve access to energy in the region, including the Ashegoda wind project and the Gibe III hydroelectric project.

Today, Tractebel is working with Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) for the Ethiopia-Kenya interconnection project and to help it realize the strategic Grand Renaissance project: the largest power plant in Africa and the ninth largest in the world.

“We would like to thank His Excellency the French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Rémi Maréchaux, and all our clients and colleagues who joined us to celebrate the opening of Tractebel’s new premises in Addis Ababa. We could not be happier to have a permanent presence here, so we can work alongside our clients and partners to contribute to Ethiopia’s ambitious low-carbon development strategy.”
