Our engineers at Tractebel in Germany are ranked one of the top firms of consulting engineers for desalination in the Middle East and Africa. This is one of the findings of a report from the world’s biggest provider of market research reports “Research and Markets”.
The report with the title “Project Insight – Water and Sewage Construction Projects: MEA” analysed projects in the ten most important countries in the region. It lists the top 50 projects and includes ranking lists of the key operators, leading contractors, consulting engineers and project owners: “The top contractors in the region are Hyundai Engineering Co Ltd., based in South Korea, and SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Corporation, based in China. The top engineers are our expert from Tractebel in Germany, and Amec Foster Wheeler (Wood Group), based in the United Kingdom.” *
Numerous successful projects were fundamental to this outstanding rating. These include the combined power and desalination plants of Al Hidd in Bahrain, Jebel Ali L1 and L2 in Dubai, Azour North IWPP Phase 1 and Al Kheiran IWPP in Kuwait along with the desalination plants of Hamma SWRO in Algeria and Facility D in Doha in Qatar. Presently Tractebel is working on feasibility studies for five large power and desalination plants in Kuwait.
All these projects provide an important contribution to the development of the region. This is because according to “Research and Markets” the Middle East and North Africa are the world’s most water-scarce regions as measured in terms of the water scarcity line defined by the UN. Rapid population and economic growth, shared water supplies across borders and the effects of climate change have severely tested water supplies.
