Talking about Dubai’s sustainable development

23 Aug 2017

On August 9th, the MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, welcomed a delegation from Tractebel to discuss Dubai’s efforts in the development of renewable and alternative energy solutions and to establish an infrastructure for electricity and water services at the highest international standards.

HE Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with international companies to exchange the best and latest international experiences and practices in the energy sector.

Tractebel’s delegation, headed by its CEO Daniel Develay, presented the latest solutions and technologies in traditional and renewable energy, and smart and sustainable solutions for a low carbon economy. They also discussed about smart grids, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and energy-storage solutions.

HE Al Tayer presented the latest development in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar power project in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. With a total investment of AED 50 billion, it will produce 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030. Upon completion, the solar park will reduce over 6,5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting Dubai’s objectives for sustainable development and a green economy.

HE Al Tayer also talked about DEWA’s initiatives to support the Smart Dubai program to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. These include Shams Dubai, which allows customers to install photovoltaic panels on their rooftops to generate electricity from solar power, and the Green Charger initiative, to establish the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations, to encourage the use of electric vehicles across Dubai, and the Smart Applications through Smart Meters and Grids initiative.

Tractebel’s delegation was formed by Daniel Develay (Chief Executive Officer), Michael Wuennemann (Executive Director of Energy for Germany, Eurasia & Middle East), Alain Vannerum (Managing Director Middle East) and Ariadne Szekut (Product Manager Energy System Consulting - Middle East).
