Cameroon wants to make better use of the resources of the Lagdo dam and improve the living conditions of inhabitants in the region. Our experts are preparing detailed studies and tender documents for the project in the north of the country.

With an irrigation project, Cameroon wants to make better use of the resources of the Lagdo dam and improve the living conditions of around 180,000 inhabitants in the region.

Tractebel is preparing detailed studies and tender documents for the project in the north of the country. It covers an area of 11,000 hectares downstream of Lagdo Dam on the banks of the Bénoué River.

The project area is located in the "North" region, one of the least developed in the country. Living conditions and the economic situation there have deteriorated further in recent years. The irrigation project will help to counter this negative trend. The contract of Tractebel with a volume of 2.5 million Euro was awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development of Cameroon. The project is financed by the Republic of Cameroon and World Bank.

Complex irrigation and drainage project

The scope of services of Tractebel encompasses the preparation of feasibility and detailed studies, and elaboration of tender documents for rehabilitation and modernization works (1,000 ha) as well as new constructions (10,000 ha) of irrigation and drainage infrastructure. The project will include modern pressurized and gravity irrigation systems with associated drainage, hydraulic structures and infrastructure measures. The design of embankments aiming at protecting the project’s agricultural perimeters and settlements against floods from river Bénoué is also part of the project. With their work, the experts from Tractebel will make their contribution to making a better life possible for the people in the Lagdo district.
