Namlan Khola Hydropower Project

The Namlan Khola Hydroelectric Project (NKHEP) is a peaking run-of-river (PRoR) hydropower project proposed along the Namlan Khola river in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality ward number 1 and 3 of Mugu district in Nepal. The design discharge of the plant is 198 Cumecs.

The main features of the project include the following structures:

• Ogee Weir, 27 m high (from invert level), with two radial gates, each of size 15.6 m (w) x 12 m (h)
• Three Approach Tunnels, inverted D-shaped, each about 140 m long and of size 3m (w) x 3 m (h)
• Underground Desander with three chambers, each of size 100 m (l) x 12 m (w) x 14.5 m (h)
• Headrace Tunnel, horseshoe shaped, about 4.9 km long and of size 5.6 m (w) x 5.6 m (h)
• Underground Surge Shaft, restricted orifice type, about 80 m high and of 15 m diameter
• Penstock steel pipe 435 m long and of 4 m diameter (maximum)
• Underground Powerhouse, with 3 x 45 MW Francis turbines, of installed capacity 135 MW
• Underground Switchyard
• Transmission line, double circuit of 400 kV voltage and 120 km long
