N60 around Ronse

Ronse, Belgium
Linked solutions

The N60 is a national road connecting Ghent to Peruwelz via Oudenaarde, Ronse, Frasnes-lez-Anvaing and Leuze-en-Hainaut. In 1997, the Flemish Spatial Structure Plan designated the road as a Type I primary road, i.e., it was to form a supra-local connection between the E17 and the E429 to support the main road network. At Ronse, the N60 functions as a two-lane road through the city center. This section is considered a "missing link" by the Flemish authorities.

The N60 Round Ronse project aims to create a supra-local connection that takes local traffic into account, to improve traffic safety and provide better traffic flow in the city center, and also to improve multimodal accessibility (on foot, by bike, by public transport, etc.).

Where possible, win-win solutions are sought in the fields of landscape, water, economy, recreation, nature, forest, agriculture and heritage in order to create added value for the entire region.

Our engineering department (in collaboration with Arcadis) was entrusted with a complete engineering assignment, from design to follow-up of the execution of the works in various disciplines:

The first phase concerns the development of alternatives at conceptual level and their assessment for spatial effects, effects on mobility, length profile and constructive feasibility.

In terms of mobility, the various alternatives are assessed for their effects on traffic flow on the main road network and the proportion of through traffic in the city center.
