Merkur is a 396 MW wind farm located approximately 45 km north of the islands of Borkum in the North Sea. As one of the largest offshore wind projects in Germany, consisting out of 66 wind turbines, the farm will generate enough clean energy to power around 500,000 households. Tractebel and ENGIE Fabricom have concluded a joint venture to take on the role of EPC Contractor. Tractebel is responsible for the basic and detailed engineering, procurement, testing and commissioning of the HV/MV equipment for the 33/155 kV offshore substation. The construction of the wind farm will be under a dual contract structure with GE and GeoSea, DEME’s specialist in complex offshore marine structures.
