As part of the complete overhaul of its BUS plan, the STIB decided to purchase 235 hybrid buses and around 40 electric buses. To accommodate the arrival of these new vehicles, it was also decided to fit out certain existing depots on the one hand and to build a 5th bus storage and maintenance center on the other.

Location | Neder-Over-Heembeek, Brussels, Belgium |
Period | 2019 - 2023 |
Architect | Altiplan |
The site chosen for this depot is the former Marly site in Neder-over-Heembeek, north of Brussels. This location also makes it possible to improve the management of the bus lines departing from this area.
The first phase consisted of a "half depot", an open-air parking garage and a technical area. It was completed in August 2019.
The second phase, which will end in 2024, will increase the capacity of the depot in terms of both fleet and staff: 190 buses, 550 drivers and 110 technicians.
Ultimately, the new project will have the following elements:
The main building is 190 m x 70 m and the maximum height is 20 m above the ground. It has 2 levels partially underground and 3 levels completely above ground.
Next to this main building are two small concrete buildings (tank/laundry and quarantine).
Tractebel has been entrusted (for the second phase) with a complete engineering assignment that includes infrastructure, stability and special techniques.
