The Khan Khwar Hydropower Project is located on a tributary of the Indus River in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. Lahmeyer International - a company of Tractebel - together with a group of local engineering consultants, has been appointed by WAPDA as the Engineer to oversee the design and construction of this high head hydropower scheme. The scheme exploits an elevation difference of some 250 m between the Indus River and its tributary, the Khan Khwar. A 30 m high concrete dam on the Khan Khwar will create a reservoir of about 1.1 million cubic meter total capacity out of which 400,000 m3 will be used for four-hour daily peak operation during dry season.
