To achieve its objectives, the STIB has set up the MMP program, which includes four main projects :
- The replacement of the current train signaling and security system with a train control system based on radio data transmission (CBTC - Communication Based Train Control), which will allow full automation of operations and an increase in frequency to one train every 2 minutes in each direction.
- The purchase of a series of new trains to be put into service on lines 1-5; these trains will be suitable for automatic operation, without personnel on board (UTO - Unmanned Train Operation).
- The construction of a new depot at Erasme, suitable for receiving the new trains in automatic mode, and the refurbishment of the existing depot at Delta, to make it suitable for operation in automatic mode.
- The installation of platform facades and platform doors in the stations of Line 1-5 to allow unstaffed train operation and further increase train frequency to one train every 90 seconds.
Tractebel, in a consortium with Systra and Geste, is assistant to the contracting authority for this project. The system consultants of the three companies are thus put at the disposal of STIB and integrated into the STIB system team. Tractebel's consultants are involved in three different missions:
- Assistance with the provision of the Erasme depot
- Assistance with the fitting out of the Delta depot
Assistance in the coordination and supervision of the adaptations of the infrastructure and the stations
