The New Barrage in Assiut, 350 km south of Cairo on the Nile River in Egypt, will replace the existing barrage. The Environmental Impact Assessment concluded that the project required substantial environmental mitigation measures due to the significant changes introduced to the fragile Nile River ecosystem.
