Tractebel acquires Deutsche Offshore Consult GmbH to become leading offshore wind player

Just a few weeks after the successful takeover of Overdick, Tractebel announces a new acquisition in the field of offshore wind by its subsidiary Lahmeyer International. The acquisition of a majority stake in Deutsche Offshore Consult GmbH (DOC) on 5 December strengthens the company’s position in the sector on a sustainable basis.

Tractebel is a leading engineering and consulting company for energy, water and infrastructure, with a turnover of € 675 million and presence in Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. With the DOC takeover, Tractebel gains a high degree of implementation expertise for challenging offshore wind projects.

Everything for an offshore project from a single source

Founded in 2009, DOC is based in Bremen and Bremerhaven, Germany and has extensive project experience in all phases of offshore wind projects. The company’s engineers, geographers, logistics and offshore experts address all main and crucial sub works.

The company’s most outstanding areas of competence are a logical addition to the range of services offered by Tractebel to date. With this acquisition, Tractebel consistently pursues its offshore wind strategy and offers its customers the complete competence matrix of expertise from a single source. The specialists provide project support from planning to engineering and operative implementation as well as operational management in all phases.

The wide range of services offered also includes optimising management of installation- and service-vessels along with preparation of port infrastructure. All services focus on effectively reducing the implementation risk of each project.

  High level of offshore expertise

DOC has been involved in numerous German offshore wind projects over the past few years. References include projects in the North Sea and Baltic Sealike Butendiek, Amrumbank, Trianel Borkum West and Borkum West II, Riffgat, Global Tech I, Baltic I, Baltic II, alpha ventus, BARD Offshore I, Nordergründe, MEG1/MERKUR, Sandbank 24, Hohe See, Albatros and Wikinger, along with the offshore substations DolWin3, HelWin1, BorWin2 and Nordergründe.

Internationally DOC has worked on the Neart na Gaoithe (UK), Humber Gateway (UK), Gemini (NL), Cape Wind (USA), Fécamp (F), Curseulles-sur-Mer (F) and Saint Nazaire (F) projects.

Olivier Biancarelli, CEO of Tractebel, emphasised: "DOC is the second acquisition made by Tractebel in the offshore segment within just a few weeks. This demonstrates that we are rigorously pursuing our growth strategy to become the leader in offshore wind engineering and a global player in the energy transition.”

Lahmeyer CEO Martin Seeger underlined: "With DOC we are gaining additional expertise in fields which are key for the successful realisation of offshore projects. Our customers will benefit in particular from this wide spectrum of services which we will be able to offer from a single source in future."

DOC Managing Director Oliver Spalthoff is looking forward to the future in the Tractebel Group with high expectations: “For DOC the participation represents the logical step towards strategic growth through internationalisation and the extension of expertise. We are looking forward to pooling our expertise with Tractebel to become an even stronger partner in the national and international offshore wind industry together.”

The signature of the share purchase agreement for the acquisition was celebrated on Wednesday the 5th of December. The closing of the transaction will take place at the end of this year following customary closing conditions and regular approvals.
