Tractebel leads in Data Protection compliance

21 Jan 2021

Tractebel in Thailand has been named winner of the nation’s coveted PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION AWARD in the COMPLIANCE CATEGORY amidst tough competition from Thai banks and governmental agencies. Tractebel was selected from hundreds of nominations across 3 award categories.

The Kingdom of Thailand enacted a Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) in 2019 and is currently implementing it across businesses in Thailand. With PDPA set to take effect from May 2021, organisations across the country must prepare to comply with the new regulations.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, together with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Chulalongkorn University, announced the PDPA AWARDS for companies that are trailblazers in the field of personal data protection. The PDPA AWARDS also aim to promote awareness and raise the level of data protection in Thailand to meet international standards.

“Tractebel Thailand has set the standard for compliance in the field of personal data protection,” said Thamiga Smarnavanich, Tractebel APAC Data Privacy Manager. “This award is a testament to the dedication of the APAC Data Privacy team and the commitment of Tractebel to incorporate data privacy in all areas of its global business.”

On behalf of Tractebel Thailand, Axel Criquielion, who is CFO for the region, was presented with the prestigious Personal Data Protection Compliance Award on 22 December 2020 for outstanding compliance by Mr. Putchapong Nodthaisong, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. The event was held by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, together with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Chulalongkorn University.

“It is a great honour to be recognised by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society,” said Axel Criquielion, Tractebel Thailand Data Privacy Officer. “We have localised the Group’s policies and made sure that we are ready for Thailand’s PDPA. This effort marked a leading initiative and we hope to inspire increased data privacy awareness among our peers.”
