The valorisation and treatment of plastic waste is key in Thailand where only 25% of plastic waste is recycled. Faced with the country’s ambitious target of 100% plastic recycling by 2030, the official launch of the SUEZ Circular Polymer plastic recycling plant in December 2020 goes a long way to supporting the national goal.
A fine example of promoting a circular economy, the strategically viable project has delivered a plant capable of converting 30,000 tons of local low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plastic waste into high quality post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) every year. It is one of Thailand’s largest LDPE recycling plants.
Designed from the start with a sustainable concept, Tractebel’s EPC-M services included Engineering Design Review and Management, with particular attention to interface compatibility compliance of the main recycling process with SUEZ’s process experts as well as environmental objectives. As a result, the plant is exceptionally energy efficient thanks to solar panels on the roof and is equipped with an advanced water treatment system that minimizes water usage and meets the highest level of local environmental standards.
