Tractebel wins contract for new tramway Oude Dokken in Ghent

23 Mar 2021

We are proud to announce that Tractebel Urban won the public tender for the extension of the tramway line 4 at the Oude Dokken in Ghent. A complex multidisciplinary project within a strategic environment in an urban context.

We will support the ambition of the "Stad Gent", De Lijn, AWV and Farys in the extension of tramline 4 between Neuseplein and Dampoort at the horizon 2025. In a first phase, the area around Neuseplein, Voormuide en Muidelaan will have to be redesigned, which will ensure the connection between the various tramways. Around 2024 the last phase will start, during which tramline 4 will be ultimately be extended by 1500 meters towards Dampoort.

Within this project particular attention is given to the improvement of the mobility and environment in the area. The design takes into account the improvement of the public space: for example the complex intersection Neuseplein will be completely reorganized, with more comfortable and safer paths for cyclists and pedestrians crossing the R40 underneath, along a reopened ancient canal. Thanks to this tramline section, De Lijn will be able to rearrange the tramway traffic, which contributes to better mobility within the city of Ghent.

Tractebel will be responsible for the further elaboration of the design, technical support for the tender phase for Contractors and site follow-up.

This project is another example of how Tractebel contributes to better mobility within cities.
