Construction expertise awarded at Building Smart Awards 2019

19 nov. 2019

The ICOS alliance, which includes Tractebel, have won the Building Smart Awards 2019 for the outstanding collaborative work achieved in openBIM on the Hinkley Point EPR nuclear project in England.

The winners of the Building Smart Awards 2019 were announced at the international summit on norms held in Beijing, China, on 28 October. The ICOS alliance (Egis, Tractebel, Setec), the BYLOR consortium (Bouygues TP, Laing O' Rourke) and the EDVANCE group (an EDF subsidiary) were together recognised with the Building Smart Award in the "Construction" category.

The ICOS alliance is in charge of detailed civil engineering surveys of the main EPR buildings at Hinkley Point in the United Kingdom. The ICOS mission, which is divided into two contracts, includes producing digital models using Building Information Modelling (BIM), implementation plans, overall structural design and detailed calculations for the various buildings that make up the nuclear island of the power plant.

Alongside its ICOS partners, Tractebel is performing calculations for the details and implementation of the nuclear island’s complex structures, 3D modelling of reinforcement and 2D blueprints, and is also present on the construction site to provide link engineering. This is the first time that 3D digital modelling has been used to produce all the implementation plans for reinforcement of concrete structures of a nuclear reactor project.

“Being part of this project with Tractebel, a long-standing player in nuclear, we’re proud of the challenge and proud to be among the precursors of 3D modelling and digital continuity.” Andressa Dusi, our French Technical Manager.
