What’s the interest to invest in energy communities? A study presented at the Microgrid Global Innovation Forum in London, shows how tariff schemes substantially change energy communities’ gains: from 7 to 120 €/MWh.

What’s the interest to invest in energy communities? With just a rooftop solar pv system, a windmill and a battery or electric vehicle, prosumers can benefit from their self-produced electricity as well as their surplus energy, by feeding it back into the grid and trading it with their neighborhood. Today’s breakthroughs in technologies like smart grids, energy storage and AI have brought a new paradigm in distributed generation. But what are the benefits? And how about the regulatory environment? The outcome of a study - derived from Tractebel modelling tools such as Prosumer and Smart Operation - presented at the Microgrid Global Innovation Forum in London, shows how tariff schemes substantially change energy communities’ gains: from 7 to 120 €/MWh.
