8-year decommissioning & waste management mission

Working in consortium with Empresarios Agrupados (Spain) and NINE (Italy), Tractebel is embarking on an 8-year assignment for the European Commission as it decommissions the historic Joint Research Centre (JRC) nuclear facilities in the Italian commune of Ispra and disposes of related radioactive waste.

The European Commission has put in place a Decommissioning & Waste Management (D&WM) Programme for all its nuclear sites across Europe, including JRC-Ispra. At this site there are several nuclear installations which include experimental reactors and hot laboratories, as well as a variety of radioactive waste management plants and storage facilities.

The JRC-Ispra’s Decommissioning & Waste Management (D&WM) Programme aims to progressively eliminate historic liabilities and bring the site to a condition of no radiological risk. Tractebel’s mission includes engineering studies and documentation supply with the scope to obtain the decommissioning license and to support JRC in executing the D&WM Programme.
