Swimming pool in Aartselaar, Hemiksem and Niel sets an example of integrated BIM approach

21 Jan 2022

On January 14 2022, the new swimming pool and attached accommodation on the grounds of the De Ark Sports Center in Aartselaar was completed. It is a Design & Build project that Tractebel was able to realize with the help of partners LD-Architects, Strabag and EQUANS.

The previous swimming pool in Aartselaar was very outdated and there was a need to build a new swimming pool. So, at the request of IGEAN and the local authorities of Aartselaar, Hemiksem and Niel, Tractebel was appointed to work on this project.

The goal was to build a new contemporary swimming pool for 3 municipalities and to focus on a high quality experience for the users and on sustainability. For example, photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof and rainwater is collected to be reused for toilet flushing, taps and also as replenishment water for the swimming pool.

Works started in February 2020 and after almost 2 years, the swimming pool is ready for use. The new building includes a 25 meters pool, a special pool with movable floor and facilities such as a waterfall, countercurrent, fountains, massage shower, a pool for children, a cafeteria and a room for the staff.

With this design, Tractebel also received two BIM awards within the categories of sports and recreation and the public award.

"Anticipating possible problems in the execution and being proactive in the design process is the way for Tractebel to guarantee a qualitative service for its customers. An award that endorses the required competencies is a great recognition of the work done and strengthens Tractebel's image as a reliable partner in the construction world", BIM modeler Leen Meul.
