New bicycle connection between Spa and Pepinster

26 May 2021

Tractebel has won the project of the Vesdrienne cycling track which concerns the construction of a pedestrian-cyclist track (RAVeL type) of a length of approximately 13,5 km linking Pepinster to Spa in the valley of the Hoëgne and the Wayai.

The studies will be carried out in a logic of integration of the project in a BIM approach, which is a novelty in Wallonia. The project will contribute to an improvement of mobility and ecological alternatives in the region. The works should be completed by 2025.

With its experience in BIM, the team will use a clash detection tool to highlight potential conflicts between project elements, which greatly improves coordination with construction companies and concessionaires, which translates into time and cost savings. With geo-referenced data, this tool allows the conflict area to be located directly and precisely in the field, by connecting to the GPS of the work machines.

The Tractebel team presented itself with the name 'AUTRAVel' in order to mix creativity and originality. The origin of this name comes from the subject of the contract (development of a RAVeL) and the name of the two offices making up the team, namely AUPa and Tractebel. The name also refers to the notion of 'through'. As the bicycle path crosses urban areas, it is an element that structures travel and invites users to discover the region through this new development.

"The RAVeL des Sources is a flagship project for the Walloon region which is part of an ambitious policy in favor of soft mobility. In addition to being a sustainable mobility project, this cycling infrastructure must be efficient and comfortable in order to serve as an emblem and reference for the region. Tractebel and the urban planning office AUPa, in association under the name AUTRAVeL, are proud to contribute to this dynamic." Kevin Carion, Project Manager.
